Our Mission:

The Fund for the Arts’ mission is to increase revenues for the arts and to enable our community to become the preeminent regional arts center in the United States and to maximize the impact of the arts on overall economic development, education of our children and the enjoyment of living in our community. We accomplish our mission through the enhancements and preservation of resources by providing excellent service.

Our History:

The Fund for the Arts is the oldest united arts fund in the country and has raised over $130 million since its establishment in 1949.  The 2006 campaign raised nearly $8 million, a long way from its first campaign in 1949, of $99,000. Today the Fund provides financing, facilities and administrative support for twenty-five area arts groups and programs. In addition, over 200 community access grants are awarded annually to community groups and schools in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Other Fund sponsored activities include the annual Whittenberg Young Artist Scholarship, co-sponsorship of the Gheens Young Artist Program with the Kentucky Center and support of the annual Black Achievers Arts Scholarship Program.

Tradition and Innovation:

American Masterpieces of Southern Craft and Traditional Art

Fong Choo

Through an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, the Southern Arts Federation is proud to announce the creation and tour of a new exhibit, 'Tradition and Innovation: American Masterpieces of Southern Craft and Traditional Art.' 'Tradition and Innovation' celebrates the contributions of master craftspeople and traditional artists in the south. Traditional arts and contemporary craft are emblematic of the south. Steeped in tradition and continuity, these art forms have served as an important bridge to the region's cultural history and as a conduit for economic development. Works by 60 artists and craftspeople from throughout the Southern Arts Federation's nine partner states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee) will be accompanied by a rich array of artist interviews, stories, and background information on the master artists and their processes.
